Jordania was awarded Fumio koizumi Prize for Ethnomusicology on 27 May, 2010
On 27 May, 2010 Fumio Koizumi Prize for
Ethnomusicology was awarded to a Georgian Scholar Joseph Jordania - Head of the
International Bureau of the International
Research Center
for Traditional Polyphony, Professor of Melbourne University, for his
contribution in the study of Polyphony.
Joseph Jordania delivered lectures at Tokyo Music Academy (May 28) and Sendai University
(May 29).
One of the Japanese Publishing houses offered
the scholar to publish a 200-page-book on the origin of polyphony in Japanese.
Prof. Jordania paid a visit to the Aine people on
the Isle of Hokkaido - the Ainu people, who have tradition of polyphonic
singing.
To the Prize awarding ceremony Joseph Jordanie
was accompanied by his spouse Nino Tsitsishvili, herself a renowned
ethnomusicologist. The Japanese colleagues also became very interested in her scientific
works.
